<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slider for magnetic disk, accurately recognizing the position of an identification signal described without any erroneous recognition while employing a reading method based on the side of the outer line of the forming surface of an external connection terminal, and a method for reading the identification signal. <P>SOLUTION: This slider is provided with a read element 6 for reading from a magnetic disk, a write element for writing in a magnetic disk, and a plurality of external connection terminals 2, 2, , , connected to the read element 6 and the write element via wiring circuits 8, 8, , , respectively.
