PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record data in each recording medium with proper multiplicity even when multiplicity differs from each recording medium.

SOLUTION: A recording unit 11 records page data in a recording medium 1 through a pickup 10. The recording medium 1 has a management information area. The management information area holds multiplicity information showing the multiplicity of page data recorded in a user data area. The recording unit 11 obtains recording page number information as multiplicity information and track interval information from the management information area. Multiplicity is calculated from the obtained two pieces of information, and page data is recorded in the recording medium 1 based on the calculated multiplicity.
