PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device with an optimum optical extraction efficiency capable of improving the optical extraction efficiency while maintaining electrical properties in the introduction of an optical extraction structure to the light emitting device, which is used together with an optical crystal structure, and a fabrication method thereof.

SOLUTION: The light emitting device consists of a semiconductor layer and a light extraction layer that is formed of material with a refractive index equal to or greater than that of the semiconductor layer and is located on the semiconductor layer.
