PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce error propagation with a simpler configuration when a bit shift error occurs. SOLUTION: In this demodulating device, an error code/constraint length determining part 21, a minimum run continuity restriction code detecting part 22 and a minimum run/maximum run compensation code detecting part 23 specify the constraint length of a code of a prescribed length including an error, and inverse converting parts 26-1 to 26-4 and an error demodulation table 25 demodulate the code on the basis of the specified constraint length.
