PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that it is difficult to stably detect a speed of an endless belt in an image forming region or a recording medium transport region over a long term although the speed of the endless belt is detected and the control of a rotation source is performed hitherto in order to suppress a periodic fluctuation of the speed upon rotational drive of the endless belt used in an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The endless belt for image forming apparatus is composed of a surface layer and a base layer which are made of light transmitting material and are stacked on each other, wherein marks are arranged with a substantially constant interval in the belt driving direction on the surface where the base layer is adjacent to the surface layer and within the image forming region or within the recording medium transport region.
