PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high purity stannous oxide in which theα-ray quantity of tin is reduced; to provide a powder of the same; and to provide a method for producing the stannous oxide. SOLUTION: The high purity stannous oxide is characterized in thatα-ray dose is≤0.01 cph/cm<SP>2</SP>and the purity except stannic oxide (SnO<SB>2</SB>) is≥99.999%. The method for producing the stannous oxide is characterized by using a raw material Sn as an anode, electrolyzing by using, as an electrolyte, an electrolyte obtained by adding a component forming a complex with monovalent Sn, and then obtaining stannous oxide by neutralizing.
