PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for screening a substance identifying a biological molecule associated with cell proliferative diseases and regulating a physiological activity of the biological molecule. SOLUTION: The method for screening a cell proliferation inhibitory substance comprises a step of selecting the substance having actions for inhibiting a quinone oxidoreductase activity of VAT1 (vesicle amine transport protein 1) or inhibiting the expression of a gene encoding the VAT1 from test substances. A prophylactic or a therapeutic agent for the cell proliferative diseases comprises a compound having the actions for inhibiting the quinone oxidoreductase activity of the VAT1 or inhibiting the expression of the gene encoding the VAT1 or a pharmaceutically active salt thereof as an active ingredient.
