Automated development of plastics-based material compositions, by forming test pieces from predetermined series of different recipes using controller of injection molding compounder

In an automated method for developing a required material composition, by forming compositions from different recipes then preparing and studying test pieces, the recipes are processed in an injection molding compounder and molded to the test pieces. The recipes corresponding to predetermined investigation series are stored (or read from a data carrier or line) into the compounder controller, and test pieces corresponding to these recipes are produced automatically. An independent claim is included for an injection molding compounder for carrying out the process, comprising a plasticization and input unit (specifically an extruder, especially a double-screw extruder), a piston injection unit, a closure unit and and a test piece mold, where the controller for compounder incorporates the recipes and automatically produces corresponding test pieces as above.
