PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a selvage (sharing residue) from being left behind on a split fiber ribbon. SOLUTION: The optical fiber ribbon splitting tool 1 comprises a fixed side shearing member 19 and a movable side shearing member 13. The fixed side shearing member 19 includes a plurality of first slots 21 provided in parallel at different depths and a plurality of first shearing blades 23 for splitting the fiber ribbon 11 by applying shearing force in its thickness direction. The movable side shearing member 13 includes a plurality of second slots 25 provided in parallel at different depths and disposed facing the plurality of first slots 21 and a plurality of second shearing blades 27 disposed facing the plurality of first shearing blades 23. The fiber ribbon 11 is inserted into the first slots and the second slots 25 at the desired depth, and the movable side shearing member 13 is moved in a forward direction of the shearing to split the fiber ribbon 11, and then moved in the direction reverse to the forward direction of the shearing to re-shearing the fiber ribbon 11, thereby cutting the selvage (sharing residue).
