PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of appropriately preventing the occurrence of image flow. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a photoreceptor made of amorphous silicon forming an electrostatic latent image; a polishing means (S13) which polishes part of the photoreceptor; potential difference measuring means (S14, S15) which give the prescribed potential to the photoreceptor and measure the potential difference between the potential of the polished portion polished by the polishing means and the potential in the unpolished portion not polished by the same; and a determining means (S16) which determines the need or not of the polishing of the unpolished portion of the photoreceptor by the polishing means corresponding to the potential difference measured by the potential difference measuring means.
