PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pencil lead which is excellent in dimensional stability even in a thermal treatment at a fast temperature-rising rate and excellent in a balance between a flexural strength and a concentration. SOLUTION: This method for producing the pencil lead, comprising extrusion-molding a raw material obtained by kneading at least a binder with an extender as main materials in a fine linear form, and then calcining the molded product, is characterized by using a resol type phenolic resin as a part of the binder.
