<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of determining whether an intermediate transfer belt is new or not. <P>SOLUTION: A fixed quantity of light is emitted to the intermediate transfer belt 2 from the LED emitting part 4a of a toner mark sensor 4 after a power source is turned on. The quantity of light reflected is received by a specular reflection light receiving part 4b, and the light received is converted into a voltage value. The voltage value converted and a voltage value stored in an EEPROM 9 at the time of shipment are compared. If the voltage values are equal, it is determined that the intermediate transfer belt 2 is fresh, and then a counter for the rotation distance of the intermediate transfer belt 2 stored in the EEPROM 9 is cleared. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
