PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an initial setup method of a bending apparatus capable of making the security of safety and the increase of the efficiency of the work compatible, and to provide the bending apparatus. SOLUTION: By arranging clamping unit placing parts 5, 6 on which each clamping unit 2, 3 which is used by being combined with a bending die unit 4 on the bending die unit 4 and starting an initial setup program, each the clamping unit 2, 3 are received and delivered between opposed each tensing shaft 7, 8 and the bending die unit 4. In this way, the initial setup performed by hand heretofore, that is, the work for attaching and detaching the each clamping unit 2, 3 to and from opposed each tension shaft 7, 8 is automated and the increase of the efficiency of the initial setup and the security of safety can be made compatible.
