The present invention relates to novel intermediates for the preparation of coenzymes, processes for the preparation of the intermediates and an improved process for the preparation of Coenzymes. The present invention particularly relates to an improved process for the preparation of Coenzyme Q , more particularly for Conenzyme Q₉ and Coenzyme Q₁₀. Still more particularly this invention relates to regio and stereo controlled process for the preparation of Coenzyme Q₉ and Coenzyme Q₁₀ of the formula (I), where n = 9 (Coenzyme CoQ₉) , and where n = 10. (Coenzyme CoQ₁₀).
