PROCESS FOR MAKING PAPER AND PAPERBOARD

A process of making paper or paper board which comprises providing a cellulosic suspension comprising cellulosic fibres and optionally fillers, including a strength additive, and then dewatering the cellulosic suspension on a wire or mesh to form a sheet and drying the sheet, in which the strength additive is a polymer comprising i) a synthetic polymeric component; and ii) a protein component comprising a polysaccharide binding domain protein, preferably a cellulose binding domain protein, wherein the cellulosic suspension a) further comprises recycled cellulosic material and/or b) has a conductivity of at least 1500 µS (micro Siemens). Significant improvements in strength have been achieved by this process.
