<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain operation continuity and redundancy at the time of an inverter short-circuit failure of a permanent magnet motor driving system, without connecting motor releasing contactors in series in two rows. <P>SOLUTION: The permanent magnet motor drive apparatus includes a three-phase permanent magnet motor 12 for driving a vehicle, an inverter 11 for driving the three-phase permanent magnet motor 12, the motor releasing contactors 21a, 22a, 23a which are provided between the inverter 11 and the three-phase permanent magnet motor 12 and electrically cuts off the inverter 11 and the permanent magnet motor 12 at the time of apparatus failure, and a control unit 13 for controlling on and off of the motor releasing contactors 21a, 22a, 23a.
