PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device saving power and compatible with various modes in the liquid crystal display device (a liquid crystal television is a typical example) having an audio output function. SOLUTION: A control circuit 6 controls the illumination intensity of a backlight unit 8 and a conductive state to liquid crystal display processing sections 4, 5, based on the detection result of a video signal detection circuit 13. In this case, the control circuit 6 controls the illumination intensity of the backlight unit 8 and the conductive state to the liquid crystal display processing units 4, 5 based on whether the video signal of a specified channel (the channel of radio broadcasting) for broadcasting only audio programs extracted by a tuner 1 is transmitted to the video signal processing circuit 4.
