PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating biomass, in which extracts or decomposition products to be obtained by treating biomass with pressurized hot water can be separated and recovered continuously. SOLUTION: A reactor having an introduction part, a discharge part and an extraction part is used. Biomass is treated with pressurized hot water different in temperature while being supplied continuously to the reactor through the introduction part. Firstly, intracellular content and water-soluble lignin, secondly, hemicellulose and decomposition products thereof and finally, cellulose and decomposition products thereof are extracted from the treated biomass and the extracted materials and decomposition products are recovered continuously from the extraction part of the reactor.
