A bill handling device is provided to accelerate a bill classification process by automatically separating repaired bills from normal bills. A bill handling device(1) includes a repaired bill detector(2) for recognizing repaired bills from the bills, which are injected into the bill handling device. The bill handling device includes a classifying unit for classifying the bills according to a predetermined criterion. When an unacceptable bill is received, the bill handling device ejects the unacceptable bill to outside as a rejected bill. The repaired bill detector separates repaired bills from the rejected bills.
