A light emission device, a method for manufacturing an electron emission unit of the same, and a liquid crystal display apparatus using the same as a backlight unit are provided to stabilize the operation by raising a withstand voltage characteristic between scan electrodes and data electrodes. First and second substrates(12,14) are opposite to each other to form a vacuum envelope. First electrodes(26) are formed on the first substrate in a direction, and second electrodes(30) are formed in a direction crossing the first direction, with an insulating layer(28) interposed between the electrodes. Electron emission regions(32) are electrically connected to the first electrodes. A phosphor layer(34) is formed on the second substrate, and an anode electrode(36) is formed on the phosphor layer. The second electrodes are side by side spaced 100 through 400 micrometers.
