An automatic traveling apparatus of a welding robot for welding the outside of a steel pipe is provided to easily mount a welding robot on the guide rails and perform an automatic welding operation while traveling the welding robot more smoothly by allowing the drive wheels to automatically travel along the guide rails in a state that drive wheels made of an electromagnet are attached to guide rails. In an automatic traveling apparatus of a welding robot for welding the outside of a steel pipe, which apparatus comprises a circular body, a welder traveling guide(99), and a welding robot(210), the automatic traveling apparatus is characterized in that: the traveling guide is made of a metal plate to which a magnetic substance can be attached; and the welding robot includes a traveling machine(220) that is movable along the traveling guide, and a welder(230) mounted on the traveling machine to automatically weld a joint of steel pipes, wherein the traveling machine includes traveling wheels made of a magnetic substance such that the traveling wheels are movable in a state that the traveling wheels are attached to the traveling guide by magnetic force. The traveling guide has guide rails(99R) formed on an outer surface thereof, and the traveling wheels have a grooved coupling part formed thereon. The traveling machine includes a body(221), a control box(229), traveling wheels(225), and auxiliary magnetic substances(227).
