A cutting tool assembly (10) includes a tool body (16) having a major fla re diameter portion (24) disposed adjacent the cutting end (22) of the cutti ng tool (12) and a puller groove (26) disposed below the major flare diamete r portion (24). A compressible sleeve (34) is disposed about a shank portion (30) of the cutting tool (12), which is mounted in a tool holder (14). A wa sher (36) is fitted about the compressible sleeve (34), and acts as one of t he sides of the puller groove (26). The location of the puller groove (26) b elow the major flare diameter portion (24) allows for the cutting tool (12) to be made by cold forming, or the like.
