PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for ophthalmic use which is suitably used for inhibiting the adsorption of a polymeric antimicrobial agent to a contact lens; and an agent and a method for inhibiting the adsorption of a polymeric antimicrobial agent to a contact lens. SOLUTION: The composition for ophthalmic use contains a monoterpene (especially, menthol, camphor, borneol or geraniol) and a polymeric antimicrobial agent (especially, a quaternary ammonium compound, a salt thereof, a biguanide compound or a salt thereof). An agent comprising the monoterpene for inhibiting adsorption of the polymeric antimicrobial agent to a contact lens, and a method of inhibiting adsorption are also provided. The composition for ophthalmic use is useful as an eye drop for ameliorating unpleasant symptoms caused by the polymeric antimicrobial agent (irritative feeling, hyperemia, dryness, etc.) not only in the case of wearing contact lenses but also in the case of not wearing them.
