PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means capable of accurately performing AF to a main subject to be photographed by a user. SOLUTION: A camera includes a light emitting part, a light receiving part, a timer, a subject distance arithmetic part and a focusing control part. The light emitting part radiates light to an index put on the subject. The light receiving part receives reflected light from the index. The timer measures reflection time taken until radiated light from the light emitting part is returned to the light receiving part by reflection on the index based on the intensity of emitted light by the light emitting part and the intensity of received light by the light receiving part. The subject distance arithmetic part obtains a subject distance to the subject on which the index is put based on the reflection time.
