An airbag device for pedestrian protection, where an airbag is received in a case extended in the lateral direction of a vehicle body, the case is covered by a lid having a bow shape in a plan view, the rear edge of the lid is hinged to a hood etc., and the front edge of the lid is prevented from being in contact with a windshield when the airbag is inflated. When an inflator (9) is activated, the airbag (5) is inflated and the lid (20) pushed by the inflating airbag (5) is rotated rearward about a hinge (21) and opened. The lid (20) is connected to the edge of an opening (3a) by a hinge (21) not only at longitudinally both sides of a rear edge (20r) of the lid but also at the longitudinal center of the rear edge, so that the radius of rotation at the longitudinal center of a front edge (20f) is small. As a result, the lid (20) opened is prevented from engaging the windshield. |
