The method involves forming core flames (6) over a central fuel nozzle (5) and an air mixing device attached to the fuel nozzle. Wrapping flames are formed around the core flames with a distance by external fuel nozzles (3) and the air mixing device. Fuel and/or combustion air supply to the core flames or to the wrapping flames is changed independent of each other during combustion process. Proportion of the flames is changed with respect to each other during changing of the fuel and/or combustion air supply. The core flames are modelable by variable arrangements. An independent claim is also included for a fan burner.
