A method for controlling an automatic power off function is provided to operate an auto turning off function when an input source which is selected before a turning off time is selected and then automatically turn a television set off at a predetermined time, thereby conveniently using an auto turning off function without additional manipulation. A method for controlling an automatic power off function comprises the following steps of: selecting power off selection input source and counting current time(S20); determining whether the counted time is within power off selection time(S30); comparing current input source with power off selection input source when current time is within power off selection time(S40); operating an automatic power off function when current time is within power off selection time(S50); and automatically turning a television set off when current time is reached at auto turning off time(S70).
