APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ITERATIVE DECODING STOP CONTROL USING VARIANCE VALUES OF NOISE IN TURBO DECODER

An apparatus and a method for controlling iterative decoding stop using noise variance values in a turbo decoder are provided to reduce calculating amounts due to the iterative decoding and to shorten a decoding delay time. A soft-decision value output unit(400) outputs soft-decision values by iterative decoding turbo coded data. A deinterleaver(313) deinterleaves the soft-decision output values output from the soft-decision value output unit. A soft-decision value storage unit(317-1) stores the soft-decision output value deinterleaved by the deinterleaver, and an average value calculating unit(317-2) calculates an average value of the soft-decision output values. A noise variance calculating unit(317-3) calculates a noise variance induced from the average value. An iterative decoding stop controller(317-4) compares the noise variance value with a threshold value to control the times of iterative decoding. A hard-decision value output unit(402) hard-decides the output value of the soft-decision value output unit.
