BATTERY HAVING SIDE ELECTRIC CONDUCTION PLATE

A battery having a side collector is provided to allow coupling of an electrode plate and a side collector with a high contact area while the electrode plate is aligned well, to prevent generation of defects in the electrode plate, and to improve the electrical quality. A battery having a side collector comprises: an electrode plate assembly having cathode plates(20) and anode plates(30) stacked alternately with separators interposed therebetween; a collector(60) welded to the side of the electrode plate assembly; a casing for housing the electrode plate assembly and the collector; and a cover sealed to the casing; an electrolyte with which the electrode plate assembly is impregnated; and terminals which are electrically connected to the collector. The cathode plate and the anode plate have insertion grooves(22a,32a) at the lateral surface thereof, the collector has protrusions(60a) to be inserted into the grooves, so that the protrusions are inserted into the grooves.
