An integrated circuit for amplifying electrical signals received from a light sensor/ detector in an optical disc reader comprises a transconductor circuit and a transimpedence circuit coupled together. The a transconductor circuit comprising a first cross-coupled differential pair having input terminals arranged to receive a differential voltage and intermediate output terminals arranged to produce a differential current. The a transimpedence circuit comprising a second cross-coupled differential pair with input and output connected with negative feedback and having input terminals connected to the intermediate output terminals.
