Buffer for a track vehicle with a buffer housing (1), a damping device (12) supported by the buffer housing, an axially displaceable buffer plunger (2) with a plunger tube (3) and a buffer seat (6) welded to it on one side. The buffer seat has a collar (8) on its rear side of diameter tuned (sic) to that of the plunger tube. The plunger tube is friction welded to the collar with a weld (19) has a radially expanding section (4). An independent claim is included for a method of producing the buffer.
