A photo-electronic air purification vacuum cleaner comprises a housing 1, a turbine extractor 3, an electric motor 4, a dust-collection bin having an inner chamber 22, and a handle supporting a nozzle assembly (31, fig 10), wherein the air path from the nozzle assembly (31, fig 10) through the inner chamber 22 and the turbine extractor 3 includes at least one extreme ultraviolet light tubes 15 and one or more air filters 7. The UV light tube 15 maybe fitted inside the housing 1 and arranged so that when the dust-collection bin is separated from the housing the power supply to the UV light 15 is disconnected. Alternatively the UV light tube 15 may be positioned in the nozzle assembly (31, fig 10) and arranged so that the power supply to the UV light 15 is automatically disconnected when the nozzle assembly is lifted from the surface being cleaned. The nozzle assembly (31, fig 10) preferably includes a transparent transmissive mirror (44, fig 10) which serves as a shield and allows the UV light 15 to shine through to the surface being cleaned. The UV light tubes 15 are preferably replaceable and water may be held within the inner chamber 22 of the dust-collection bin. |
