Electrophoretic media, display devices based on such media and their methods of fabrication

Provided is an electrophoretic display medium, comprising one or more set of colored particles in a dielectric fluid, wherein at least one of the one or more set of particles comprise particles having acid functional groups imparting a substantially uniform negative charge to the particles.
The particles are obtained by emulsion and aggregation of polymer particles in an aqueaous emulsion; the acid functional groups are preferably obtained by hydrolysis of maleic anhydride.
Also disclosed is an electrophoretic display comprising a multiplicity of reservoirs (30,31,32) filled with the electrophoretic medium.
