Preparation of maleic acid anhydride, through heterogenous catalytic gas-phase oxidation of a hydrocarbon, comprises introducing a hydrocarbon containing material current and an oxygen or an oxygen source containing material current to a micro channel-reactor, and converting the hydrocarbon to maleic acid anhydride in the explosion area of the micro channel-reactor.
