A method for automatically controlling image quality according to a discomfort index of a television receiver and a television receiver thereof are provided to control brightness, color and sound of a screen automatically according to a current discomfort index, thereby reducing the discomfort index of a user through color and sound and accordingly enabling the user to watch the television more conveniently and get satisfaction emotionally. A method for automatically controlling image quality according to a discomfort index of a television receiver comprises: detecting temperature and humidity(S201,S202); determining a current discomfort index through the detected temperature and humidity and checking a discomfort index level(S203); outputting an image quality control value corresponding to the discomfort index if the current discomfort index is smaller than a preset reference range(S204,S205); and controlling image quality of a video by performing PSM(Picture Status Management) and CSM(Color Status Management) of a screen according to the set image quality control value, and displaying the video with the controlled image quality(S208~S209).
