The invention provides a blank pyrotechnic cartridge (2) comprising a cartridge casing (4) having a bullet-like projection (28) extending forwardly therefrom, the bullet-like projection (28) being retractable through an opening in the casing when the cartridge (2) is fired, the cartridge (2) being axially expandable in a rearwards direction i n use to move the breechblock of a firearm to recycle the firearm.
