Semi-transmissive homeotropic liquid crystal display device

A semitransmissive hometropic liquid crystal display device includes: an active matrix substrate; a counter substrate; a liquid crystal layer interposed between the substrates; and a plurality of pixels. Each pixel is comprised of a reflection section (that performs display in a reflection mode) and a transmission section (that performs display in a transmission mode). The liquid crystal display device further includes an electrode covering ( 13, 14 ) configured whereby voltage applied to the liquid crystal layer in the reflection section approximates the voltage applied to the transmission section. The electrode covering film ( 13, 14 ) comprises a transparent conductive film which functions as applied voltage adjusting means by compensating for a difference in a work function between the reflecting electrode ( 5 ) and the transparent electrode ( 6 ).
