A disc diagnosing method of an optical recording and reproducing device is provided to allow a user to detect an error condition of an optical disc accurately. A disc diagnosing method of an optical recording and reproducing device includes a step of detecting a PI(Parity of Inner-code) error of a loaded optical disc(S101,S103); a step of counting the detected PI error at an applicable inspection range(S105); a step of comparing the count value with a pre-set standard value and judging a disc error condition when the number of the PI error dose not correspond to a normal condition(S107); and a step of displaying an error message with an applicable address after calling an address of an error area when the dist error condition is detected(S109,S111).
