APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CHANNEL ESTIMATION IN OFDM/OFDMA SYSTEM

A channel estimating apparatus and a method in an OFDM system are provided to improve the channel estimating performance by selecting a region, in which a channel variation is low, among a time region and a frequency region. A pilot symbol extractor(300) receives an OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) signal, and extracts a pilot symbol from the signal. An interpolation sequence determining unit(302) measures cross-covariance of a time region by using a previous channel estimating value, and by comparing the cross-covariance with cross-covariance of a frequency region to determine interpolation sequence. A channel estimating unit(304) estimates a channel by executing interpolation of the time region and frequency region by using the pilot symbol.
