An encryption/decryption method and apparatus for video data are provided to detect a face display area of humans among video data as a specific area and encrypt only the associated specific area, thereby reducing the quantity and time of encryption/decryption processes. An encryption/decryption method for video data comprises the following steps of: outputting at least one specific area corresponding to predetermined specific information by inputting video data(204); and encrypting only at least one specific area among the video data(208). The specific information is pre-stored in a memory or is a partial area selected in the video data by a user. A pattern corresponding to pattern information included in the specific information among the video data is outputted in the specific area outputting step.
