944,915. Labelling apparatus. KLEENSTIK PRODUCTS Inc. July 28, 1961 [July 28, 1960], No. 27547/61. Heading B8F. Relates to apparatus for stripping pressuresensitive adhesive labels from a backing strip and applying the stripped labels to articles by utilizing a blast of high pressure air or gas. The backing strip 10, Fig. 3, with labels attached are fed from a reel 13 around the forward edge of a stripping bar 17 and via feed rollers 18, 19 to a take-up reel 20. The abrupt change in direction of the backing strip at the edge of the bar 17 strips each label from the strip and presents it to a grid located at the bottom of a housing 31, where it is retained by light suction applied continuously by a fan. At this point a microswitch operated by the label causes the strip feed to cease and when the article is in position beneath the grid, it operates a further microswitch which causes blasts of air to be directed through nozzles 42, 43, 44, Fig. 6, against the label. These blasts override the suction applied by the fan and blow the label on to the article with sufficient force to cause adhesion thereto. |
