The invention relates to a method for detecting the movement or angle of rotation of moving mechanical components consisting in evaluating phase measuring values generated by exploring several phase sensor tracks by means of a sensor arrangement, in determining and compensating an inclination angle (gamma) which is defined by the inclination of the sensor arrangement with respect to the normal to the direction of the component displacement and an error of measurement (Deltaalpha1), thereby induced, by means of a compensation factor (Q, q) determined by steps consisting in transforming the phase measuring values (alpha1) of all phase sensor paths (2, 3, 4, 5) into signals (S) with the aid of a matrix (M) with integer entries, respectively, in evaluating a non-integer component (s) using the signals (S) by means of a relation (6), wherein s = rounded-off S (S), wherein signals are independent of the absolute angular position (alpha), in determining a correction angle (k) by evaluating a multidimensional phase and a vector (C) dependent on a predefined number of periods and in determining the compensation value (Q, q) from the (k) and (s) values.
