APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR MULTICASTING USING PHYSICAL PORT DATABASE IN VLAN

A multicasting device using a physical port DB in a virtual LAN(Local Area Network) and a method thereof are provided to manage physical port information on a virtual LAN interface as a DB at a network lower layer, thereby multicasting packets to a substantially subscribed virtual LAN port only at an upper layer. A physical port DB(106) stores physical port information on a virtual LAN interface. A physical port information inserter(103) recognizes a multicasting packet from header information of a packet inputted through a physical port(101), and inserts the physical port information into the multicasting packet. An IGMP(Internet Group Management Protocol) module(105) adds or deletes or updates packet information and the physical port information extracted from the multicasting packet, to or from or in the DB(106). A multicasting protocol module(108) updates a routing table(111) according to inquiry/response results of the DB(106), and requests the multicasting packet to be delivered to a substantial multicasting subscriber port among virtual LAN member ports.
