A roll seam welding assembly for an L-shaped folded seam (4) two sheet metal panels (2) has two powered rotating axles (51, 61), each bearing a co-axial roller (70) electrode and coupled to a welding power supply (54, 64, 80). The folded seam has a first shank (41) at right angles to the uppermost sheet metal panel (2), and a second shank (42) bent at 90 degrees. One of the dumbbell shafts (51, 61) moves relative to the other between a first position in which the rollers are face-to-face on opposite sides of the same shank, and a second position in which the welding assembly can move sideways from the folded seam (4). One of the rollers has a circumferential groove (70) that enfolds the second shank (42) during the welding operation. |
