PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an image heating member from damaging caused by water swelling even when the image heating member 16 of rich moisture content is rapidly heated. SOLUTION: The image heating member 16 comprises at least the base layer 1, the elastic layer 2 and the surface release layer 3, wherein the hydrochloric acid transmission quantity after 30 days in the chemical fluid transmission examination is≥3.0×10<SP>-4</SP>g cm/cm<SP>2</SP>. The value "the hydrochloric acid transmission quantity/film thickness" of the surface release layer 3 i.e. the hydrochloric acid transmission quantity after 30 days in the chemical fluid transmission examination divided with the film thickness is≥300(g cm/cm<SP>2</SP>cm).
