<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display first and second images in different directions to each other. <P>SOLUTION: A polarizing element 11 is disposed between a liquid crystal display panel 1 and a surface light source 10, the polarizing element 11 having a plurality of thin and long polarizing films 12 arranged in parallel to the normal direction of the display panel 1 and along a vertical direction of the screen, wherein the transmission axes 12a of the plurality of polarizing films 12 are orthogonal to the direction of the transmission axis 9a, projected on the polarizing film plane, of a polarizing plate 9 disposed in the opposite side of the display panel 1 to the observation side. A phase difference element 14 is disposed between the polarizing element 11 and the display panel 1, the phase difference element 14 comprising strip-like λ/2 phase difference portions 15 and non-phase difference portions 16 alternately arranged in parallel to each other and orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the polarizing films 12. In a plurality of pixels 4 of the display panel 1, first image data are written in the pixels in a first region where the light transmitting through the polarizing element 11, the λ/2 phase difference portion 15 of the phase difference element 14 and the polarizing plate 9 in the opposite side of observation enters; and second image data are written in the pixels in a second region where the light transmitting through the polarizing element 11, the non-phase difference portion 16 of the phase difference element 14 and the polarizing plate 9 enters. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
