PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a step for an escalator which permits a passenger to easily recognize a lower step side edge portion of a step, and preventing the passenger from slipping on the step. SOLUTION: This step 4 circulates and moves between an upper landing and a lower landing. Further, the step 4 has a step plate 8 including a step surface 7 on which the passenger steps and a riser 9 provided at the lower stage side edge portion of the step plate 8. A border groove 13 extending along a border portion between the step plate 8 and the riser 9 between both the edge portions of the step 4 in a width direction is provided at the edge portion on the riser 9 side of the step surface 7. An inner surface of the border groove 13 has the first inclination surface inclined from an edge portion on the riser 9 side of the border groove 13 and the second inclination surface inclined from an edge portion on the opposite side to the riser 9 side of the border groove 13. The first inclination angle which is formed by the first inclination surface and the step surface 7 is larger than the second inclination angle which is formed by the second inclination surface and the step surface 7.
