<p>The present invention provides methods and architectures for managing power through a combination of a controller core and a power management unit. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a power management architecture used for a portable system comprises: a controller core adapted to generate one or more instructions; and a power management unit coupled with the controller core and at least one power source for supplying the portable system, and adapted to control the power source in response to the instructions. According to another embodiment of the present invention, a method for managing power in a portable system comprises the steps of: generating one or more instructions at the controller core; coupling the controller core with the power management unit; transmitting the instructions from the controller core to the power management unit; and controlling the power source by means of the power management unit in response to the instructions.</p> |
