PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection device and an inspection method for a case, capable of detecting a defective molding caused by a strain of a so-called wrap-round case. SOLUTION: In this inspection device 1 for the so-called wrap-round case having a side face 2e formed by overlapping an outer flap 8 in an outside of an inner flap 7, a line light is emitted to the side face 2e of the case 2 by an illumination means 4, and a projection line L projected to the side face 2e is photographed with a prescribed time interval, from a direction different from an illumination direction of the illumination means 4, by a photographing means 5. An image processing means 6 recognizes height differences of the inner flap and the outer flap 8, based on an image of the photographed projection line L, recognizes the side face 2e formed by the inner flap and the outer flap 8 as a solid shape, and detects the defective molding and a positional shift amount of the case 2, based on the solid shape, to judge the quality of the case 2.
