The invention concerns an ultrasonic dental treatment apparatus comprising a surgical handpiece (220) equipped with a transducer connected to an ultrasound generator (230), the handpiece being designed to receive ultrasonic inserts (210) mechanically coupled to the transducer and operating in different ranges of ultrasound wave power and amplitude. The dental treatment apparatus comprises means (224, 225), for example optical means, for automatically detecting the range of operating power and amplitude of the insert (210) mounted on the handpiece and processing means for automatically adjusting the ultrasound generator on the detected power and amplitude range.
